The Association of Destination Management Executives International, otherwise known as ADMEI is the professional organization that supports Destination Management Companies (DMCs) throughout the world. Their role is two-part; connecting clients with a global resource of Accredited DMCs and offering education for member DMCs to elevate their standards through training and an annual educational conference and awards recognition of the best of the best.
Corinthian Events is not only an Accredited DMC and a member of ADMEI, we are also a member of the Global DMC Partners (GDP), an elite group of top performing DMCs. Members of GDP were represented in many of the nominations and award winners during this year's ADMEI award presentation. Corinthian Events came home a winner once again with an award of Excellence in Meeting Services for our VF Investor Meeting Last Spring.
Jill Tate, Tamara O'Malley, and Jamie Hellesen headed out to Chicago to represent Corinthian Events at this year's ADMEI Annual Conference. Jill was honored to join the Certification and Accreditation Board and shared that she is amazed at the evolution of our industry. Jill shared "What was and still is sometimes thought of as party planning and not really a profession has evolved into over 200 professionals from around the world joining together to share best practices and elevate the hospitality industry. When amazing people come together and share their experiences, energy and excitement vibrates in a way you can truly feel. "
During the conference, a major snowstorm occurred, and the city was shutdown. It's like Chicago just wanted to test these elite DMCs! The local Chicago DMCs all came together to make a venue change on the fly. Logistics were smooth, no food was wasted and everyone danced the night away! Professionalism at its core.
The conference was comprised of a multitude of interesting sessions including 2018-Year of the dog: is the Global Economy Vicious or Faithful?, Evolve to an Experience-driven Organization, Leading Innovation and Creativity and What you need to know about Liability and Litigation.
A take-away that stuck with both Jamie & Tamara from the opening session, is that it's more insightful to watch what people do than listen to what they say. It's also important to identify your core values so that you know the type of people you are looking to attract for clients and within your team. An interesting case study was reviewed of Heineken's hiring process for a recent candidate. They filmed and shared the project using the link here. Our core values are a part of our everyday work here at CE, you can check them out using the link here.
Jamie has been attending the ADMEI Conference for 5 years now and what she most looks forward to are the connections and relationships. She agrees with Jill that the industry has come a long way and to see how many people are involved in the industry is great. This year, they had all the "newcomers" stand up, it was almost ½ the room which was impressive. It's great networking within the industry, where everyone (even competitors in their own city) come to share ideas and learn from each other.
Our team had a blast reconnecting with friends and partners throughout the conference and of course at the end with a rockin' closing party.
You could say we had a good time!.. looking forward to seeing everyone at ADMEI 2019!
